Adjudicator Certification

Adjudication Certification Opportunities

In an effort to expand our judging pool, TTAO will continue offering certification opportunities throughout the one-act play season. Potential judges should hold a degree in Theatre or have direct UIL One Act Play experience as a director or contest manager and may not be involved in the direction of an official UIL One Act Play entry for the season.   All participants in certification workshops must be pre-approved by completing an online application available six weeks prior to each workshop opportunity.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADJUDICATOR TRAINING

  • Applicants shall have a four (4) year college/university or conservatory degree or certification in Theatre Arts or an application that demonstrates satisfactory practical experience with the UIL One Act Play contest, as determined by the Committee on Standards of Adjudication Practices.

  • If an applicant possesses a bachelor's degree in theatre, the Chair-Elect may approve their application without the consent of the Standards and Practices committee.

  • Applicants who do not possess a bachelor’s degree in theatre, shall have their application voted on by the Standards and Practices committee and State Theatre Director.  A simple majority of the committee shall approve or decline the application.

  • Applicants cannot reapply within the same school year (August-May) if their application has been declined by the Chair-Elect or the Standards and Practices Committee.

  • When an application has been approved or denied, applicants will be contacted by email.

  • The State Theatre Director has access to practitioners with a variety of one-act play experience.  With this knowledge, the State Theatre Director may recommend applicants for training who do not fall within the parameters of TTAO requirements.

ADJUDICATORS MUST:

  • Agree to become familiar with the rules of the One-Act Play Contest as outlined in the most recent UIL Handbook for One-Act Play
